We know what you want, because it’s what we wanted

As researchers at a healthcare institution who were also information technology specialists we developed systems to enhance secure web-based collaboration on international healthcare research projects. As time went on we increasingly saw the logic of having our research system integrate daily patient flow informatics with research efforts. Today, the Ortech healthcare informatics system uses a multi-platform input, data from the point of origin philosophy, to eliminate duplication, increase accuracy and save time and money through integration of data streams and automation of reporting in everything from patient information management to international collaborative research.

We built exactly what would work for us, then for years we built exactly what would work for other healthcare professionals. Because we are healthcare professionals ourselves, we know exactly where the wrinkles in day-to-day administration are – or rather – used to be.

We know you want easily integrated data streams

Whether your operations are paper-driven of fully EMR, our modular approach can develop properly scaled and structured efficiencies that will save time and money. Batch file uploading, real-time HL7 messaging, and document integration with EMR systems are just some of the processes we use to move you to a place where you spend less time on patient management and more time on patients.

You don’t even need to know how to use a computer. Our easy to engage systems empower patients and staff members alike to feed data to a central location and Ortech takes it from there. What needs to go to the EMR, is routed there. What needs to be transferred to another database (perhaps a research project) is routed there. Forms are populated and data is shared using pre-defined security appropriate designations, everything is moved where it needs to go. Needless duplication is eliminated, accuracy and data integrity are increased. And it all happens instantly and simply – out of sight, out of mind.

We know you want automated population of forms and reports

“Every year approximately $4000 per bed of hospital services go unbilled.”

McKinsey & Company

Reforming Hospitals with IT Investments, August 2010

Directly from the point where it originates (eliminating the need for transcription), data moves to the centre where it is rerouted directly to all the fields on all the forms that require it. Fluent in ICD 9/10, CPT, PQRI to name a few, the Ortech system is not only efficiency incarnate, it is also the ultimate assurance that your recording, billing and claim reports are accurate.

And beyond operational efficiencies that save time, optimize billing and prevent fines, the Ortech system also automates capture of information such as treatment volumes, patient satisfaction rates, and quality of life analysis for use in business case development in funding, investment and marketing enterprises.

We know you want to eliminate duplication, transcription and errors

Broad-spectrum hardware compatibility means “do it once” data capture. Translation: by smartphone, laptop, desktop, touchscreen – or even bar code scanner – from the OR, the waiting room, the research lab, the ward, or a patient’s home, information is fed directly to a central secure database from wherever it originates. Not only does this allow for unprecedented convenience, both in terms of input and access, it also eliminates the need for transcription that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, while lowering incidence of transcription errors to improve data integrity.

“We saved $70,000 in transcription fees in the first year we used the Ortech system – and the fiscal value doesn’t even begin to describe the value it offers in terms of time saved in other ways.”

We know you want security

Access to our hardware entails seven layers of physical security and access to personal health information or personal information flowing through our systems is protected by a six-level security protocol.

Even if our systems were to be breached, the data would be rendered useless by AES encryption, Salt and integer-coding fail-safe techniques. This is to say that all data in any Ortech database would be reduced to long meaningless strings of characters or integers in the event of an unauthorized extraction.

Comprehensive library of device suppliers

As part of our commitment to facilitating input efficiency and streamlined process across the entire healthcare service spectrum, the Ortech system also offers a comprehensive library of healthcare devices. Our library enables laser scanner recognition of bar codes for thousands of healthcare devices from leading manufacturers such as Zimmer, Johnson & Johnson/DePuy and Stryker.
